Decorating Kitchen: Going For Kitchen Curtains

Since I am decorating my kitchen, I have a lot of job to do. I am installing new flooring, I’ll add two new lamps, there are some elements that will be added at the corner. But I’m still not sure what to do with the windows. Ger curtains? Blinds or shades? I don’t have a clear vision and the wide choice of window treatments doesn’t help either.

I guess I want to have a bit more privacy then usual. Since it gets darker then usual, neighbors can see what exactly am I doing in my kitchen. And that’s not something I enjoy in. So blinds would be best when you look at it like that. On the other way, I don’t want to completely block the sun and have to hassle with opening and closing all the time. Curtains seem more efficient for that. I can remove them fast and get them to cover window in the same manner.

I know there are some blackout curtains I could use to block the view entirely, but I wonder how would they go with my setting. The kitchen goes to sky blue color. Hm, I guess that is suitable for something light, a thin fabric of some sort. This is how I finally get to the idea that kitchen curtains would be my best choice. I wonder how much time will I need to choose the right one? Well, doesn’t matter, as long as these new curtains look great in my new kitchen, I’ll be satisfied.

Ask fo perfect fit window blinds when fitting shades to your conservatory

If you have been looking for conservatory blinds any time in the last year then you will probably have come across something called the perfect fit window blinds. Since the launch 3 years ago this type of window blinds has changed the face of window dressing completely. The reason for this is that perfect fit blinds need no drilling to fit them.

The Huge Benefit of a Perfect fit window blind

The most important benefit of using this type of blind is that your 10 year guarantee on the conservatory is not made null and void by fitting them. Because of the snap in fit none of the window frames or mouldings are damaged with drill holes. The brackets just slide under the rubber gasket and sit against the glass face. The lugs on the brackets then snap into the lug holes on the frame of the window blind.

The second benefit of perfect fit window blinds.

Because they simply clip in you can also unclip then when you want to clean the conservatory or your blinds. When your conservatory needs its annual clean normal blinds seem to get in the way all the time. The perfect fit blind system allows you good access to both the glass and the frames.

Window and conservatory companies are now recommending the sytem

I know that many window suppliers are now specifying this type of conservatory blinds in preference to the normal options of vertical blinds and roller blinds which use brackets that have to be screwed into the frames. Becuase this is such a better product many enterprising window companies now promote this type of bloind because its adds to them offering a good all round service.

The measuring has to be done very precisely as there is very little tolerance made for measuring mistakes. The manufacturing is done to strict guidelines to ensure the best possible fit. The blinds are fitted in seconds and it is similarly just as quick to unclip them.

Merely revamping your bathroom shower can drastically alter the appearance of the entire room, leaving it feeling fresh and revitalized. Materials that are being used for basement waterproofing purpose and how those are used

There can be some big differences in the basement waterproofing materials and the way they’re used. Some will be available to the public and some may only be available to the trade. Let’s assess the situation and see how we can apply it to your home.

Basically, you need to keep in mind whre you reside and the amount of water that is present. Think about that since it will have an impact on what materials you will be able to use.

Simple sealants are the first basement waterproofing materials that people are looking for. In other words, they have a basement that has already had some form of waterproofing applied to it and are looking to patch small damp areas up. There are top-end sealants such as RadonSeal which will treat poured concrete, mortar in block walls or stone foundations and concrete or cinder blocks.

You have to coat all of the basement walls and the floor with sealant or else the water will still seep in around the edges of the treated area. This product comes with a limited 20-year guarantee so looks like a viable option. There is only one issue here and that is that the sealant, (all sealants, not just this particular one)basement waterproofing sealants only protect the inside of the basement. In other words, there could be lots of water pressing against and through whatever materials your cellar walls are made of.

You may have to think of other alternatives if you have breaks in the wall. If your walls are plaster, then you can simply replace the plaster coating. Chip away any loose material from around the crack and simply refill with the plaster.

Another option may be to use stitching materials. These metal staples are stapled across the cracks to prevent or limit further movement. Cement that doesn’t shrink is used to fill in the cracks.

Gunite (a form of concrete) can be sprayed on bigger cracks in basement walls or floors. You’ll need special spraying equipment to do this which you can hire. The spray that results fills cracks, giving a smooth finish, provided the correct mixture is obtained. However it does stick to most surfaces so it’s a good option.

Finally, it needs to be said that basement waterproofing materials are not the ultimate solution. You should also be looking at making sure there is as little water getting into the ground around the basement as possible.

Also think about:

- keeping rain gutters in perfect repair.
- sloping the ground away from the foundation of the house
- when it is time for grass seeding, clear trees, foliage and flower beds from your home’s foundation
- filling up driveway cracks
- there can be arrangement for surface water to be taken away from the house by installing curtain drains
- putting in dry wells for the rain water spouting at a minimum of ten feet from the interior of the property
- placing a sump pump or pumps into service.
- water can be routed to a floor drain through the use of interior gutters in the basement walls

Tips on Choosing Bathroom Theme Accessories

It is true to say that most homeowners consider their bathroom to be very little more than a room full of tile along with shiny fixtures and fittings. Nonetheless, with a thorough reconsideration of how it could be, you could transform the space into something to be proud of. All that is necessary is a little  imagination on your part as to how you would prefer it to look together with the accessories needed to bring that dream bathroom to fruition.

Bathrooms, similar to every other room in a house, should be themed since it offers the space a mood and adds your personality to your little corner of the world. It is where you can say, intentionally, what is most important to you. There are hundreds of design subjects to pick from, including country, dolls, sea life or even villas on the Mediterranean. The choice is yours, so select the theme that you want. It is a good idea to choose a theme that matches, or at least correlates with other design styles in your house. By doing so, it will not be overly busy, or out of tune with other areas of the house.

Bathrooms in numerous older homes were installed as an afterthought and are literally converted closets in some cases. If you are unfortunate enough to have a small bathroom, you can still decorate to give the illusion of space by utilizing the right colors. Just bear in mind that with a small bathroom, less is often more. Both paint and wallpaper work well although, in a small space, apply neutral colors either on one wall or as an accent on a chair rail. If you decide on conventional white paint or wallpaper, it is a simple matter of accentuating with color using any of the myriad of decor accessories. Items such as baskets, framed photographic prints, sea shells, scatter rugs and even window dressings will all contribute colorful emphases without going overboard.

Warm reddish-brown tone of paint or wallpaper work very well with plants in the bathroom. However, choose plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can stand the various chemicals. Many plants simply cannot take the mousse, hairspray, and perfumes that are used on a regular basis in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will end up in your compost bin. If your bathroom is large enough, you can hang up plants from the ceiling, or arrange them on the back of the toilet. Large garden style bathtubs have sufficient space on the rim of the tub to place miniature plants, and together with bath soaps and baskets, they look stunning.

Rugs and towels play an important role when accessorizing your newly decorated bathroom. For a feeling of sheer elegance, you will not go far wrong with hand woven or deep plushy throw rugs. Nevertheless, when purchasing the rugs, consider the type of bathroom floor covering you are placing them on since they can present a slipping danger when placed on a lino or tile floor. To prevent this, look for rugs that have either a non slip or rubber backing. Try coordinating your new rugs and toilet mat in either matching or alternate colors. When blended with a neutral background, different textures work well to make an inviting, comfy warm feeling to your bathroom.

You can pep up your bathroom with ornamental towel racks and colorful towels as well. Towel racks are available in all manner of finishes including wood, bronze, silver and gold. If you want to match existing baskets and picture frames, you can paint or stain wooden racks in whatever color or shade you desire.

Modern bathroom lighting is just as important as the decoration and accessories. In fact, light can make or break the mood of any room. Since water and electricity do not mix very well, your first consideration must be safety. If you have youngsters in the home, I would suggest that all lighting should be fixed and out of reach of little wet hands. That aside however, you can leave night lights on when the bathroom is not being used and if counter top space permits, a small lamp. You can then fit lamp shades that match your general theme.

Finally, if you are at a loss for ideas, look through some home decorating books or magazines for inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. You might well chance upon wonderful themes that you did not even know existed. It is your little corner of the world, so be as different as you want when dressing your home bathroom

Find A Contractor not a Rogue Trader and get it Done Right

So, you’ve decided to remodel your home. Now you need to find a contractor who will get the job done in the time frame promised, and at or near the estimated cost. Be wary when looking at home improvement contractors, or else you can find yourself in a construction nightmare that can cost you tens of thousands of dollars. When it comes a hiring a contractor, doing some investigative work beforehand will save you a lot of hassle down the road.

Regardless of whether you are planning a basement remodel, a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel or want some room additions in an expansive home remodel, it is always a good first step to contact your local builders association for a list of contractors who are members as this will help you avoid the cowboy builders and rogue traders. Once you have narrowed down your list check with your state’s regulatory or licensing board. You want to make sure your potential contractor is licensed and find out if he has any upheld complaints against his work. Its a good idea toi also contact the Better Business Bureau. Once you have done your research, solicit bids from at least three contractors. You shouldn’t necessarily hire the lowest bidder either; remember, they have to pay for their supplies and labor costs, so an excessively low bid should be a red flag.

Once you’ve narrowed your list down, ask your prospective residential contractors some questions. How long have they been in business? Are they insured, including workman’s compensation and liability? Do they do the work themselves, or do they subcontract? If they subcontract, do they have a stable of subcontractors that they work with regularly? Who are their suppliers? Contact the subcontractors and suppliers and find out if they have good working relationships with the contractor. You should also ask for three references from past clients. Find out if they are satisfied with the work, if the project was completed on time and at the quoted cost. Once you find a contractor you feel comfortable with, you are ready for the contract.

You should never hire a residential contractor without a written building contract. The building contract should state exactly what work is to be done, the cost of the project, approximately when it will be completed, and the materials to be used, including the brand names. It can be difficult to find a contractor who is reliable and reputable. Doing the homework before you hire is time consuming, but remember you are investing a substantial amount of money in your home improvement project. You want it to be money well spent.

Sauna Bathing-An Ancient Past Time

Sauna bathing is an ancient past time although the activity is quite popular in the modern world as well.  Let’s explore the reasons why saunas continue to have such a strong presence.

Saunas are designed to provide either moist or dry heat. This takes place in a small room where bathers remove their clothing and assume a comfortable position while the hot temperature (greater than 80 °C) penetrates their pores. Saunas are very relaxing, and tend to make users sweat. The detoxification has not only physical benefits, such as an improved immune system, but also psychological benefits, including a reduction in stress.

”Sauna” is world that developed in ancient Finland and means a traditional Finnish bath. The first known saunas were essentially the lowest points dug in a slope in the ground mainly used as dwellings during winters. At the time the sauna included a fireside where stones were heated to very high temperatures. Afterwards, water was thrown on to the hot stones thus producing steam and heat.Because of the extreme heat, individuals would remove their clothes for comfort.

Eventually the sauna was improved with the addition of a metal woodstove and chimney. In traditional Finnish saunas the temperatures within often exceeded 90 degrees Celcius. Steam vapor was also generated by spraying water onto the heated stones. The steam vapor and high heat caused bathers to sweat a great deal.

Often the Finns would use a ‘vihta’, a bundle of birch branches with fresh leaves, to gently swat themselves and other bathers to improve the experience. The vihta was used by bathers to gently swipe the skin in order to stimulate the pores, enhance cell production and improve blood circulation. Another benefit of the vihta was that it gave off a very pleasant scent that stimulated relaxation in the same manner that many of today’s aromatherapy products work. In fact, the vihta is still used by some individuals in the sauna.

Saunas relieve stress in two ways. One obvious way is psychological; the heat and steam have a highly relaxing effect. .The other way in which a sauna relieves stress is physiological. More potentially harmful chemicals are able to leave the body with the aid of the hot steam. In addition, the formation of new chemicals that are known to cause stress is greatly reduced.

Since the sauna makes you sweat, and the sweat removes toxins, the overall experiences helps to detoxify your body by forcing toxins out through the skin.

The Finns keep the rich history of the sauna alive today by making it a part of their daily ritual. In Finland, saunas are considered to be a natural and effective way of refreshing both the mind and spirit. The sauna was and continues to be an essential aspect of daily life. Families in Finland traditionally bathed together in the sauna at home. It is interesting to note that Finnish women used to give birth in the sauna.
Finnish migration to other parts of the world aided in the dissemination of information about saunas, how they were made and used and their many benefits. This enabled individuals from other cultures to learn about saunas and use them, and it paved the way for future advancements such as electric sauna stoves and far infrared saunas, which became very popular. Today, the sauna is recognized and enjoyed globally, and continues to be enhanced both aesthetically and functionally.

Carpet Cleaning Company Services Can Keep Carpets Beautiful

Oriental rugs

Rugs and carpets in a home help to make the place feel warmer, more pleasant and inviting for everyone. Carpeting can also add to the overall decor scheme of the home and help set a tone for a room. There is also nothing better than a nice plush carpet under your toes when your bare feet hit the floor in the morning. A carpet cleaning company is a great resource for helping you to keep those rugs and carpets in the best condition possible, for as long as possible.

A carpet cleaning service can come in particularly handy when there have been some mishaps and you find yourself looking at stains on your new carpets, beautiful Oriental rugs, or expensive Persian carpets. If you have tried everything you know to get a stubborn stain out, then it is time to call in the services of professional carpet cleaners.

Any carpet cleaning company has all of the equipment and the various cleaning chemicals that will be needed for any carpet cleaning task that you need to have done. But more important than the carpet cleaning equipment they have or the selection of cleaning solutions that they can use is the years of experience that these professionals have and can utilize in taking care of your floor coverings.

There are many different ways of cleaning carpets professionally, yet not all carpet cleaning companies are set up to provide all of the various services. Some of the companies will specialize in just one approach, while other carpet cleaning service companies will be able to do just about anything you can think of in terms of getting rugs and carpets looking their best again.

One of the oldest and still most widely used approaches to cleaning carpets is carpet shampooing. While there are many carpet cleaning services that offer shampooing, you can also rent a machine, buy the carpet shampoo and do the job yourself. Shampooing is the simplest and most common approach and is perfect for many situations.

There have been instances of the shampooing product causing damage to the carpeting, so you need to be sure that you read the instructions carefully and that you know exactly what type of material your rugs and carpets are made from. Also, sometimes, really nasty stains will seem to have been removed by the carpet cleaning, but then will reappear a few days later. If you are not sure of the type of carpet you have or if you have stubborn stains, then it will probably be a better to hire a professional service for carpet cleaning.

Dry carpet cleaning is a method that is becoming a popular alternative to carpet shampooing. Technicians from the carpet cleaning companies will spread a power-like material all over the surface of the floor covering and then uses special carpet cleaning equipment to work the powder into the carpeting and then dry vacuum to remove the powder, which ideally ends up removing all of the dirt and debris, plus any stains as well.

For heavily soiled carpets, bonnet carpet cleaning is the preferred method because it can achieve deeper cleaning than the other methods. With this approach, the carpet cleaning equipment produces steam which is combined with a detergent that deeply penetrates the fibers of the rugs and carpeting. Once the cleaning solution has been steamed into the floor covering, the machine then uses suction to extract the detergent as well as all of the dirt and grime that it loosened.

While choosing the right method of cleaning carpets is important, it is even more important that the carpet cleaning company that you hire has the proper experience to do the job well and that they have a great reputation. They should be able to provide you with a list of satisfied customers, as well as proof that they are bonded, licensed and insured for the work they will be doing in your home.

How Does One Find Out How to Waterproof a Basement?

What are basement waterproofing systems and how do they work? Let’s take a look at the time and tested waterproofing of basement and how it works.

If you can see a home being built the contractor first surveys the lot using the blueprints for the home to be built; then he sights out the lot to find out the best place to start digging and grading the property, then he lays the footer or foundation and begins building the basement walls, lastly the balance of the home follows.

That big hole in the ground, the first on the list above is important to note.

When basement walls are constructed there is an area outside the walls that must be filled. Loose backfill is what is used to fill this void. Well compacted or not, introducing a huge pile of loose backfill is going to cause problems.  Water will always flow in the path of least resistance.

Water will constantly ooze into this area. Sometimes, creating a problem is the drainpipe that gets full of silt contained in many systems when waterproofing a basement. The water is naturally bringing all sorts of suspension with it. When these pipes get filled the system overloads and a lot of water pressure gets applied to the outside walls of the basement. If there are crevices in the walls, water will push through even if the basement walls are waterproofed.

This kind of situation is persistent because the tubes that should drain the excess water eventually deteriorate.

A lot of the time a huge mistake is made by not providing access to these pipes. Basement waterproofing is also applied to the external walls of the basement to try and keep the water out. This is often referred to as a tanked system.

The drained cavity basement waterproofing system is a better system that works by getting rid of water pressure in the walls. To protect the property water is controlled, collected and then made to pass through hidden drainage channels which are either natural drainage or sump pumps.

Waterproofing a basement is when they are installed internally, have easy access ports for removing silt, and can be installed in basements where other methods have failed.

So to summarise, a good basement waterproofing system will:

- usually be a permanent or long-term solution
- stop both ways by which water can enter through the walls and up from the floor
- not disturb landscaping, decks, patios, driveways, etc
- usually be an approved waterproofing method for home loans
- often be substantially cheaper than other waterproofing methods

You want to be sure to choose a reliable waterproofer for your home, keep in mind that it will greatly increase the value by far more than what you initally paid.

In conclusion, you want a basement waterproofing system that will deliver:

- a permanent or long term fix
- stop water through the floor and walls
- not disturb the exterior appearance of your home
- an approved method by home loan lenders
- more affordable than other methods,

You should look at waterproofing not as an expense but as an investment in the value of your home.
